In
1972 Dr. Hollis B. Todd and his
wife Dr. Julia M. Todd had a vision
for Mississippi College. They
worked with the administration
and bought a frequency, 93.5.
WHJT (W because we are East of
the Mississippi River and the
HJT is Hollis & Julia Todd)
became a learning tool for students
at Mississippi College. When the
station first went on the air
as Alive 93.5, there really was
no format. But with the vision
of Dr. Billy Lytal in 1999 WHJT
picked up the CHR format from
satellite provider, CHRSN. Most
programming is now local, but
weekends and overnight broadcast
still rely on CHRSN.
Over
the years WHJT has turned into
what Dr. and Mrs. Todd dreamed
it would be. A great place to
teach students the power of radio.
WHJT has won many awards from
MAB as well as a recent station
of the month award from Preimer
Radio Group. Our students leave
with great paying jobs and are
very competitve in their fields.
WHJT
is devoted to providing family
safe programming for the Central
Mississippi area. Mississippi
College and WHJT join forces to
spread the word of Jesus to the
people in our community. "We
are very grateful to the the Todd's
for their vision. We strive to
make them proud and bring glory
to God everyday."

History

In
February 2000, Scott Albritton
with the backing of station
manager Matt Rumfelt and
communication department
director Dr. Billy Lytal
developed the first front
page of STAR93FM.com. Though
streaming radio was available
on the website for the first
few years, changes to FCC
regulations required Star
93.5 drop the online stream
due to legal reasons.
